Gun Show Report: Dayton, OH

Well I went to Bill Goodmans at Hara Arena today in Dayton, OH. Got there about 40 minutes before the doors opened, was around 30th in line. Brought with me my post-ban 20" Bushmaster AR-15 that I picked up last summer for around $600 used. This thing was like a neutered dog with no brake, special stock, or rails of any sort so I wanted to get rid of it and get something I could modify a little.

I decided to try and get $800 for it which would help out a bunch towards another AR. I let it go for $750 which wasn't hateful. I ended up getting a 16" Stag with collapsable stock, removable handle and quad rails for $900. I was happy with paying the extra $150 to get a slightly smaller barrel and something I can work with. I almost got a DPMS instead for the same price but the last one was sold to the person in front of me. Hopefully I won't regret buying a new Stag AR-15.

I also got some Meprolight night sights and had them installed on my Glock. Also picked up a case of .223 Brown Bear since I have been shooting up all my surplus and Privi ammo. Not happy with the price at all, but needed it and can't do better online or elsewhere right now.

I was surprised at the selection that was available again on EBRs. Lots of AKs, ARs and SKS to be had. ARs are coming back down in price, but AKs and SKSs are not. Saw WASRS for $590 and Yugos for $800. Plenty of glocks to choose from and they were priced about what they were last summer. Ammo and mag prices are just getting worse and worse. Surplus Euro AK mags $20 everywhere. Scratched up USGI AR mags $20. I even saw someone trying to sell those cheap ass KCI Glock knockoff mags for like $20 a pop. The woman was trying to tell someone who had no idea about them that they were factory glock mags and I called her out in front of like a dozen people.

Also a lot of people had guns with them to sell. Way more than I have ever seen before. Seemed like a lot of older stuff though, not panick buying firearms being resold.

All in all it was a good show. Even picked up 5 50 BMG rounds just for the hell of it. Now to get me a 50 BMG upper for the AR.

IMO, I think the reason ARs are going down in price is due to manufactures ramping up production to meet demand.

How much were cases of 7.62x39?

Cases of Wolf 7.62 $350 to $375. It was nasty. One table had 1 case of Wolf for $270 that wasn't priced. Some little middle aged nerdy looking guy was asking the price on it when I walked up and was trying to haggle the dealer down $5 whole dollars. I told the dealer I would take it if the tool didn't for the asking price.

I doubt you'll have any regrets about that Stag. I've put quite a few 5.56/.223/.22lr rounds through it and I've yet to have any real hang-ups with it. Any feeding problems I have had were due to cheap mags.

How much did your .223 ammo run you?

500 round case for $175. It hurt to buy it but I need to start stacking some more of this caliber since I have been going to the range once a week with friends. They are more than willing to pay for ammo, just can't find the damn stuff.

Perhaps he meant further down in availability?
